The Los Angeles African American Women Pac (LAAAWP) has endorsed Dr. Sharifa Batts for the Long Beach Unified School District Board of Education, Area 1. Their primary mission is to provide a pipeline for women to assume leadership roles at all levels of government and public affairs, including, as commissioners, elected officials, board members, community activists, corporate community, and external relations, and numerous other positions. We are grateful for the endorsement of the Los Angeles African American Women Pac and look forward to their support.

Cynthia Terry and Dr Sharifa Batts

Cynthia Terry has endorsed Dr. Sharifa Batts’ campaign for the Long Beach Unified School District, Board of Education seat for Area 1. Cynthia is a former member of the Long Beach Unified School District who served as a distinguished educator in the district for a number of years, as a teacher and school principal.  She retired after serving as principal at Cabrillo High School, where she was able to bring recognition to the school through her leadership. Cynthia was the recent recipient of the Woman of the Year by the Assistance League of Long Beach for her long and dedicated service to the students of the district.  Cynthia recognizes the important work that needs to be done to provide opportunities for all students in the district and strongly feels that Dr. Batts will be able to provide that leadership. Cynthia and I are graduates of Pepperdine University and we realize and embrace public service.

The Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters have come out in support of Dr. Sharifa Batts for the Long Beach Unified School District Board of Education, Area 1.  The union has been a strong supporter of democratic causes and a valued supporter of American workers.  We welcome the endorsement of the Carpenter’s union and look forward to their support.

Jan Hall Zolin, a former member of the Long Beach City Council, proudly endorsed Dr. Sharifa Batts for the Long Beach Unified School District and stated that “Dr. Batts background and record show that she can be a strong advocate for children and help lead the Long Beach Unified School District.  Her experience as an educator and parent advocate will be very important assets to the district and its efforts to ensure Equity for all students.”

Compton Mayor Emma Sharif endorses Dr. Sharifa Batts for the Long Beach Unified School District Board of Education, Area 1

Compton Mayor Emma Sharif endorses Dr. Sharifa Batts for the Board of Education, Long Beach Unified School District Board of Education, Area 1.  Mayor Sharif serves as the proud Mayor of the City of Compton and has long championed education.  She was appointed to the Compton Unified School District Board of Education in 2001 and was instrumental in supporting a number of important initiatives to improve the academic success of Compton students.  Based on her experience as a proven leader in leading educational reform, Mayor Sharif strongly believes that Dr. Batts possesses the unique range of skills and experience to help guide the Long Beach Unified School District through its emerging challenges, to include the newly adopted Equity plan.  Mayor Sharif strongly feels that Dr. Batts is the right person at the right time to ensure the academic success of students in the Long Beach Unified School District.

Dr. Virginia Baxter officially announced her support for Dr. Sharifa Batts for the Long Beach Unified School District Board, Area 1. Dr. Baxter currently serves as a member of the Long Beach City College Board of Trustees, Area 5, and previously served as Executive Director of the Long Beach City College Foundation. The Foundation was recognized as one of the top performing foundations in the state under her leadership.
 
Dr. Baxter firmly believes that Dr. Batts will bring a very important perspective to the district as a member of the board based on her doctoral research involving the contributions of political and social capital of women and minority group board members on nonprofit and private boards.
